Men Don High Heels to Raise Money For Domestic Violences
November 11, 2007
Men will be asked to literally walk one mile in a woman's shoes -- high-heeled shoes that is -- to raise awareness about domestic violence.

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: The Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence" will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the University of Wyoming Fraternity Mall. The march is sponsored by Albany County SAFE Project, STOP Violence, and the Women's Action Network.

SAFE Project will collect both monetary and shoe donations the day of the event. Money raised through the event will benefit SAFE Project and donated shoes will be given to the Salvation Army.

"This is the first year that ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' has ever been on campus," says Jenny Clay, STOP Violence intern. "We are very excited to see what type of response we are going to receive from the UW and Laramie communities."

The national event is a fun opportunity for men to educate the community about a very serious subject and rally the community to take action to prevent sexual violence. UW students and Laramie residents, both men and women, are encouraged to participate.
